Big Show with Even Bigger Smiles

Craftsman Aiming for Bigger Smiles at 2019 Canada Day Fireworks

An autobody repair company that promises bigger smiles for drivers will be helping to get smiles from everyone at a major public event.

For the fourth straight year, BC’s largest autobody collision repair chain – with the slogan ‘Air Miles and Bigger Smiles’ – will be title sponsor of the Craftsman Collision 2019 Canada Day Fireworks.

The fireworks display will follow a day of free family fun at Polson Park. Where there will be lots of entertainment and activities from 10:00am to 4:00pm to put a smile on your face. The fireworks will be the spectacular grand finale of July 1 Canada Day celebrations, and held at Okanagan Lake’s Kin Beach in Vernon.

“This is our once-a-year chance to brighten their nights”

“We do a lot of initiatives and sponsorships at the local level, and this is a great example,” said Craftsman Collision President Rick Hatswell. “As a BC-based Canadian autobody collision repair company with many locations throughout the Okanagan and Central BC, we are especially happy to be sponsoring an event that celebrates Canada Day and brings families together.”

“Craftsman Collision has been brightening people’s days since 1977,” said Bobbie Temple, Manager of Craftsman Collision in Vernon. “This is our once-a-year chance to brighten their nights as well.”

For spectators, the best vantage points will be Kin Beach or Paddlewheel Park – or from roadside points along Bella Vista, Commonage or Bench Roads. Those watching from Kin Beach will hear the music portion of the presentation directly from nearby loudspeakers. Spectators in other areas can tune into a live FM simulcast on 107.5 Beach Radio, but are advised against using an Internet feed because of the Internet’s inherent time lag.

Fireworks Will Begin Rain or Shine

The Craftsman Collision 2019 Canada Day Fireworks will begin rain or shine at 10:30 p.m. from barges anchored off Kin Beach – except in the event of unsafe wind conditions, in which case it will be moved back to 11:00 p.m. If the presentation is still considered unsafe at 11:00, it will be attempted again the next evening.

The volunteers organizing the event, the North Okanagan Canada Day Committee, thank Craftsman Collision for their community support, and acknowledge additional funding support from the Government of Canada as well as the City of Vernon. Special thanks to Vernon Volkswagen for its ongoing support, and to Inner Space Watersports for contributing a group of divers to remove any submerged debris around the firing site.

The committee asks spectators to keep the public spaces clean by using all available garbage bins and/or by packing out any garbage, bottles, drinking glasses or other materials. Bringing a plastic bag or two can help store and remove any extra trash.

Pets and alcohol are not allowed on any of the public beaches. RCMP along with Vernon Search and Rescue will be present to enforce safe distances on the water, and volunteers will pitch in with clean-up duties the evening of the event and following morning for any litter that does get left behind.

The committee also thanks the residents of Okanagan Lake and surrounding area for their tremendous support and shoreline cleanup of last year’s event. Anyone wishing to help with the cleanup process this year is asked to email nocds.1867@gmail.com, or to call 250.549.0076.
