The Salvation Army Increases Fleet Size

The Salvation Army purchases truck with Craftsman Collision donation

Today, Lieutenant Alfred Esdaille from North Vancouver Salvation Army and CEO/Owner, Bill Hatswell of Craftsman Collision, unveiled a new refrigerated food truck at Craftsman’s head office in North Vancouver, BC.

Craftsman Collision generously donated $42,000, which was used to help purchase a new refrigerator truck.  The new truck enables the Salvation Army Food Services feed over 1,000 people every week in the Lower Mainland. Volunteers pick up food from grocery stores that would otherwise have been thrown out, but is still good to eat, and redistribute the food. The program is a meaningful way to strengthen not only families, but communities.

The benefit of the refrigerator truck has provided relief in many ways:

-reducing monthly vehilce expenses by $1,300  annual savings of $15,600
-efficiency in man hours required, 5 hours per week
-Value of “reclaimed food” that is re distributed $245,909 annually
-Clients served monthly, 137 families, 130 single persons (seniors, disability assistance)
-Value of food given out to each client monthly, Single person $180, 2 ppl. $250, 3 ppl. $350
-Able to serve greater number of people through additional Food Bank distributions
-Ensure that clients do not  have to choose between buying food or medicine and paying rent.
