Bullying stops here, support Pink Shirt Day

Each year on February 25th we come together and stand united against bullying. To #Pinkitforward Craftsman Collision and the West Vancouver Police Department teamed up to get the message “Bullying Stops Here” out to the community of West Vancouver.

“On behalf of Craftsman Collision and our over 500 employees, we would like to thank the West Vancouver Police Department for providing us with the opportunity to sponsor their Community Services vehicle for Anti Bullying Day,” said Stacey Cook, Marketing Manager. “We are privileged to work alongside the WVPD and West Vancouver School District, to do our small part in helping stop bullying and give back to our community.”

Pink Shirt Day originated right here in Canada in the town of Berwick, Nova Scotia.

The original event was organized by David Shepherd, who in 2007 bought and distributed 50 pink shirts after male ninth grade student Charles McNeill was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during the first day of school. Since 2007, this one simple gesture has grown and has now become Anti Bullying Day and is recognized by over 25 countries worldwide, such as the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Anti-Bullying Day was instituted to prevent further bullying. Did you know that one out of four kids will be bullied during their adolescence? Most of the time it continues after the first incident; statistics show that 71 percent of students that are bullied, keep being bullied making it a problem with no end. It is time to put a stop to bullying…

It is difficult to find words that truly express what someone goes through who has been bullied. But this poem written Shane Koyczan, Poet entitled “To This Day”, will give you a glimpse into the life of not only a child that has been bullied but the impacts it has when this child becomes an adult. Embrace his words, thoughts and experiences and stand with us and show your support for Pink Shirt Day.
